Mahatma Gandhi Charitable Trust, a premier and reputed non-profit making public charitable trust of Rajkot was established in 1965 by a noted social worker and educationist – Late Shri Labhubhai Trivedi to cater to educational needs of primary and formative education to middle class of the society. Working on high principles of Mahatma Gandhi, the Trust with able and worthy team of self-less, service minded trustees entered higher education with a view to provide quality and affordable education for mass. Presently, it manages 27 educational institutions with 16000 students under its fold. With same values, objectives and high standards in prime focus SLTIET was established in June 2010 in the fond memory of its founder and esteemed trustee Late Shri Labhubhai Trivedi.
Late Shri Labhubhai Trivedi, one of the founding fathers of Mahatma Gandhi Charitable Trust and the former Pro Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University, Rajkot, was a symbol of social service through education and youth development and a social worker from the core. A real eminent educationist with vision, he dedicated his entire life for development and management of education. He was the pillar and the main guiding force behind many social, cultural, and educational institutions in Saurashtra. He was the key figure behind modest beginning of the Mahatma Gandhi Charitable Trust.
The founder trustee – Late Shri Labhubhai Trivedi dedicated whole of his life for the development and proper management of the educational programs of the trust. He was the moving spirit behind the ever-developing activities of the trust. He rendered his yeoman services to the trust till his last. He was a social worker, real educationist with the last version, – a visionary, and devoted his entire life for education not only in Saurashtra but in Gujarat as well. Education was his forte. He presided over the destiny of hundreds of students. He was founder of many social, educational and cultural institutions in Saurashtra and managed them very efficiently and successfully. He contributed a lot in the development of Gujarat and Saurashtra universities. He was appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Saurashtra University for two terms. He was a real actor, patron, supporter, friend, philosopher and guide of the academic world.
To commemorate his sweet memory and for his gratification, the trustees of Mahatma Gandhi Charitable Trust commenced an Institution of his liking, viz., Shri Labhubhai Trivedi Institute of Engineering & Technology in the Rajkot city with a purpose of imparting real technical knowledge, and thus, fulfilled his dream.
